October 1st is architecture and generations day.

Moving from a comfortable apartment in Copenhagen to the house where I was born in West Jutland has been a long road. It’s here that I live together with my husband, my children, and my parents.

It is and has been hard work finding our place in the world – for all of us.

Why do we do it? Because it’s all worth it.

It isn’t the happiness that seeing my children hear stories of a bygone era brings, but the joy of seeing the calm and patience that my parents exude when they are together with my children.

After returning to live with my parents, what I have learned as an adult is the very thing that I moved away to discover, namely to find myself. All the things that I blamed my parents and the past for while living in the apartment, I have since had to deal with.

Do something good for your children: help them to have a good relationship with their grandparents.
